Have other organizations taken a position on the sales tax vote?

On August 18, the Chamber’s Board of Directors announced their support of the 1 percent sales tax referendum. Wichitans will have the opportunity to vote on this issue on November 4. During the next few months Chamber members will utilize the blog to a provide commentary and answer questions about this issue.

The Board of Directors for Go Wichita Convention & Visitors Bureau has joined the Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and voted to support the 1 percent sales tax referendum.

Susie Santo, Go Wichita Convention & Visitors Bureau President and CEO, said, “Our board is energized by the momentum that we see in this community and believe that a YES vote on this issue provides needed infrastructure and innovation to ensure our community has the right economic foundation to move into the future. We know that every community needs a diversified, solid and growing tax base to fund quality of life projects that are vital for our tourism and visitors. A community must have water and jobs.”

Santo added that a YES vote aligns with her organization’s mission: To market the Greater Wichita area as a major convention and tourism destination, thereby enhancing the economic development of the city, county, region and state.

She said, “Our board values our partnership with the community and the organizations working to learn more about what other communities are doing for the future. We believe that our community can accomplish much more when we are aligned and working together on creating a better place to work, live, and visit.”
